Outreach Programs Let
the Louisiana Children's Museum bring the fun and learning to YOU! A Museum
outreach coordinator can travel to your classroom with these entertaining
and educational lessons: Step into the center of the Earth! The Earth Balloon is a 22-foot inflatable, portable classroom that gives students an up-close, inside look at earth science, geography and the world we live in. Students enter at the International Date Line in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and have a seat on Antarctica. An Earth Balloon presentation can accommodate about 30 students and is 20-40 minutes in length (varies according to grade level). With sufficient notice, lessons can be tailored to fit into your curriculum or highlight specific topics such as volcanoes or conservation. Pre and post-visit materials are available upon request. Please note: The Earth Balloon is a 22-foot sphere. The presentation area must be indoors (or covered) and large enough to provide at least 23-feet of clearance. Most appropriate for grades 1-12.
StarLab Let the LCM bring the stars down to Earth! Without leaving school, students can take to the skies inside an inflatable, portable planetarium and classroom standing 11 feet tall and 20 feet wide. LCM offers star-studded STARLAB lessons that explore constellations, Greek Mythology, and more. Other topics offered in StarLab include the Biological Cell, Plate Tectonics, Ocean Currents, Constellations, Chinese Legends, Native American Mythology, Weather Currents, and African Mythology. STARLAB lessons are approximately 20-40 minutes in length with a maximum of 30 students per lesson. Presentation must be indoors and provide at least 23 ft of width and 13 ft of height clearance. Most appropriate for grades 1-8.
Li’l Stuffee Standing seven-feet tall with bright blue hair and a wide friendly grin, Li'l Stuffee wins the hearts of all children! Students take an entertaining look inside the human body as removable pillow organs trace the digestive, circulatory and respiratory systems. The Li'l Stuffee lesson is approximately 20-30 minutes in length (depending of grade level). Each lesson can accommodate up to 50 students. Pre and post-visit materials are available upon request. Most appropriate for grades Pre-K through 3.

Communication, safety, teamwork, and responsibility are stressed throughout the workshop. A great self-confidence booster for students! Hammer House fits 25 students per workshop and is ideal for 4th and 5th graders. Four chaperones are needed to assist in the construction of the house. Community Outreach: Named for its ability to empower the community one individual at a time, Play Power is an outreach program that creates the time and place for play to be appropriate. In the face of the massive recovery effort in New Orleans, Play Power can offer children the power of free expression and laughter. Play Power is brought into schools and neighborhoods that need the medicine of laughter. Just as the museum is literacy based, the Play Power sessions are based on rich children’s stories that serve as inspiration for free play activities and artistic expression. Play Power is currently reaching 2,200 elementary school students in an area of greater New Orleans that is deeply impacted by the storm. It is our intention to increase our numbers significantly. We are investigating additional sites and organizational partnerships in our effort toward this expansion. We are focusing our site selections on libraries and schools that have the infrastructure to accommodate Play Power. Sites must have a safe facility with a stable administrative staff that we can form a tight relationship with for a healthy partnership.
