How far in advance do we need to reserve our group visit?
Group visits can be booked all the way up to the day before based on availability and must be booked in advance.  If you have a preferred date or time, please call to reserve your group visit 4-6 weeks in advance or as soon as possible. January - May becomes quite busy with spring visits and mornings tend to be our most popular time for groups so consider a Fall or afternoon visit for an optimal experience.

What is your chaperone requirement?
Chaperones are required to accompany children throughout the Museum at all times during the visit to encourage exploration and to be responsible for their safety and supervision. Please Note: One Chaperone (age 18+) is required for every six students.

Can we bring more than one adult for every six students? Are there any restrictions?
We prefer and encourage one adult chaperone (age 18+) for every four children. There are no restrictions regarding the maximum number of adults that can accompany your group. In fact, if you have one adult for every four children, you will receive a reduced chaperone rate of $2.50 per chaperone. This discount will be calculated at the time of your visit.

How long is a group visit?
A group visit is two-hours in length and cannot be extended.

What happens if we're running late?
When you schedule a group visit, you should choose the best time when you think your group will be able to arrive despite delays or traffic.  Because of the high demand for group visits to the Museum, you do have a 15 minute window to arrive without a time penalty.  If you will be arriving more than 15 minutes after your scheduled arrival time, your field trip begins without you and your group will have whatever time remains in the two hour visit once you arrive.  We will try to accomodate you as best we can but please call if you will be running late so we can prepare for your group.

Is there a LCM staff member that conducts the visit?
A group visit is a self-guided tour. Your students and chaperones are encouraged to explore the LCM at their own pace and discretion. Chaperones must stay with their assigned students at all times. We encourage teachers to visit prior to their scheduled group visit to plan and prepare lessons that utilize LCM exhibits to coincide with their classroom lessons.

Is there a place for us to eat lunch?
Unfortunately the LCM does not have a cafeteria to prepare lunches. However, our three birthday party rooms are available for $1 extra per person for 30 minutes after your group visit is over. The lunch spaces are subject to availability and must be booked in advance.

Can my child use our LCM family membership for a group visit?
Since the group visit is a different experience from the family visit, LCM memberships cannot be used toward group admission.

Do you have a gift shop where our students can shop for souvenirs?
Yes. Students may shop in the Museum Store when accompanied by their chaperone for fun souvenirs! A special wall of “cheap thrills” features items priced from $.50 to $3.00 especially for young visitors with limited spending money. We also have a souvenir bag form which lets you order goody bags in advance for your visitors. Click here to view the form.

Do you have bus parking?
Yes. Bus parking is available on Constance Street in clearly marked bus parking zones. Busses should park in the bus parking zone before unloading. In compliance with a New Orleans city ordinance, charter busses may not leave their motors running while parked.

Where can chaperones park if they drive their own car?
Visitors may park at street meters or in nearby parking lots. If parking in a nearby lot, the parking fee may range in price from $5-$6.
