Storytelling Festival

Saturday, January 12, 2008

11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Dynamic and popular storytellers from across the greater New Orleans area will visit to share stories old and new at LCM's annual Storytelling Festival.

Tales will be spun every 30 minutes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Times-Picayune Theatre. Don't miss Olayeela Daste, Peter and Delia, Jennifer Turner, Ashton Ramsey, Cecilia Dartez, Grayhawk and more. Mariama Curry's dance troupe performs at 1 p.m.

Little toddlers can also get in on the literary action in First Adventures, where a costumed storyteller will transport them to another world.

Throughout the day, visitors can get their faces painted and make sock puppets and finger puppets. Dress up as your favorite storybook character and participate in the "Once Upon a Time" costume contest.

LCM's Storytelling Festival is sponsored in part by the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Foundation, Inc.

FETCH!

Saturday, January 19 and Saturday, February 16, 2008

LCM's monthly FETCH! program is based on a popular PBS science and engineering reality TV series for kids. Hosted by Ruff Ruffman, a loveable zany animated dog, the show sends kids out into the real world to test their wits with interesting challenges. Look for a FETCH! lab to open at the Museum in early 2008. Until then, we host the monthly program as a scavenger hunt throughout the Museum that asks kids to obtain information and solve hands-on activities. FETCH! educates and inspires as it wildly entertains. It gives kids the opportunity to flex their problem-solving skills, test and revise their ideas, work together and have fun. Join us every third Saturday of the month.

Saturday, 1/19 Solve the "Money Mystery" - FETCH! partners with the Federal Reserve, bringing fun to money matters including counting, pricing, and budgeting.

Saturday, 2/16 The Big Bug Hunt! - Picnic with insects, create a critter catcher and use found objects to make insect artwork.

MLK Day

Monday, January 21, 2008

11:30 a.m.

Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood

Enter a world of imagination and fantasy where children and families can explore and discover new adventures together in "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood: A Hands-On Exhibit," on display at the Louisiana Children's Museum as a gift from the Pittsburgh Children's Museum.

The 2,000 square-foot exhibit includes three main sections: Mister Rogers' Television House, Neighborhood Trolley and Neighborhood of Make-Believe.

The Mister Rogers' Neighborhood exhibit was originally funded through a generous grant from the Grable Foundation and was developed by the Pittsburgh Children's Museum with the support and assistance of Family Communications Inc., the producers of the legendary Mister Rogers' Neighborhood Television show.
