Camp Manager


Every employee at the Louisiana Children’s Museum has the same Strategic Job Description. It includes three elements, listed in order of priority.

The Camp Manager for the Louisiana Children’s Museum is responsible for providing fun, enriching, hands on learning experiences for Museum campers and high school volunteers by leading planned activities centered on the theme of the weekly camp. They will do this through performing duties related to planning, organizing, and implementing holiday and summer camps (Mardi Gras, Summer, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years).  The Camp Manager will work to create a fun, educational, and safe space for the campers, while directly modeling and sharing techniques with teenage volunteers. They will take a leadership role in building a routine for the camp days. The Camp Manager will be responsible for providing feedback and reviews of the camp to the Chief Learning Officer. They will be accountable for the attendance, parent paperwork, and before and aftercare for the camps. This position reports directly to the Chief Learning Officer to ensure quality camp experiences.

The Camp Manager must be available from June 1 – August 6, 2020.  There will also be a week of training prior to the start of camp on June 1st.


  • Experience in Education or Early Childhood Development required
  • Demonstrate strong and professional communication and customer service skills
  • Group / Classroom management experience or skills
  • Ability to present information to large groups of varying ages
  • Leadership experience, managing and coordinating people and schedules
  • Aptitude to delegate, mentor, and communicate with high school volunteers
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently or with a group
  • Experience with program planning
  • Familiarity with Reggio Emilia practices
  • Must be a lifelong learner 


  • Works with the Chief Learning Officer (or designated staff) to plan, create and execute weekly camp activities for Summer Camps (10 weeks).
  • Have fun, guarantee safety and exude kindness
  • Assists with prep work for camp by gathering supplies and paperwork
  • Support volunteers and delegate tasks appropriately
  • Coordinate Before and/or After Care for camp, including assist with curbside drop off (8:45-9:00am)
  • Greet campers and their caregivers in the morning, bid them farewell before they leave
  • Organize and implement planned activities throughout the camp day such as experiences, activities, story time, Museum exploration
  • Meet performers and guests for camps, and checking them in when applicable
  • Monitors cleanliness and functions of day-to-day room set-up, snack, lunch, and clean up with camper and volunteer assistance
  • Anticipate camper and volunteer needs such as breaks
  • Be familiar with camp policies and procedures, enforce as needed
  • Give feedback to Chief Learning Officer during and at the completion of camps
  • Motivates children to learn through play
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Department: Education

Reports to:  Chief Learning Officer

Supervises: Counselors, High school Camp Volunteers, Campers (ages 5-8)

Coordinates with: Play Coach, Education and Exhibit staff

Interacts with: Counselors, Campers, Parents/Caregivers of Campers, Volunteers, All of LCM Staff
